Minecraft Equestrian Server

Information

  • Be Respectful: Treat all players with respect. Bullying, harassment, and toxic behavior are not tolerated. This includes staff members, we will not tolerate any form of abuse towards our staff.
  • No Griefing: Do not destroy or alter other players' builds, structures, or property without permission. Griefing is strictly prohibited.
  • No Cheating or Hacking: Using mods, hacks, or any third-party software that gives you an unfair advantage (e.g., x-ray, flying) is forbidden. Note: After consideration, we have agreed to allow players to use mods such as Freecam and Replay ONLY for the purposes of taking pictures/videos and roleplaying. We are trusting players to use these mods genuinely, if we find cases of people abusing this trust we will not allow them to be used.
  • No Stealing: Do not take items or resources from other players without their consent, whether in chests or in the open world.
  • Respect Protected Areas: Do not build near areas that are inhabited by another player or claimed. You must build at least a few thousand blocks away from any server-owned area.
  • No Spamming or Advertising: Avoid spamming the chat with repeated messages, commands, or advertisements. Advertising other servers is not allowed.
  • No Exploiting Glitches: If you discover a bug or glitch in the game, report it to staff immediately. Exploiting glitches is strictly not allowed, if it feels wrong, it likely is.
  • No Offensive Builds or Content: Avoid creating inappropriate or offensive structures, signs, or content that may offend others.
  • Follow Build Limits and Claims: The server has land claiming or building limits, follow these guidelines to avoid disputes over space.
  • English Only in Global Chat: Keep the global chat in English to ensure clear communication. Other languages can be used in private messages.
  • Swearing: Swearing is allowed, but keep it to a minimum. No slurs of any kind will be tolerated.
  • Vanilla Horses: Vanilla horse spawns bug occasionally and still spawn in villages or previously loaded chunks, they are not to be kept and should be killed if you come across one.
  • Summoning Boss Mobs: The Ender Dragon may be summoned as many times as the player would like, this must be done in survival. The Wither may be summoned in a confirmed secluded area, though it is recommended to do this at the bottom of a cave or in the nether. If you have spawned in the wither and have caused damage to another player's property or animals you will be responsible for said damages.
  • Mob Farms/Farming: Small mob farms are permitted at the discretion of our moderation team and cannot be automatic. Mob farms should be at least 12 chunks away from any properties; they may contain one spawner and cannot be multi-level. Animal “farms” and general crop farming must be realistic, animals must follow our welfare guides. Crop farms cannot be multi-layered or automatic.

  • What is a brand? A brand is a unique symbol / string of characters used to represent your facility/business or what it produces. All brands must be certified, you may not brand animals without it being certified - you should instead follow a generic naming system (eg. HerefordC-001) for identification if needed.
  • How do I get a brand? Only facilities/businesses are able to apply for a brand assuming that the brand has some relation to what they're doing - for example, a boarding facility has no use for a brand as it does not produce horses or livestock. Brands are verified after your facility/business.
    Brand Application Form
  • Are there any limits on brands? Brands may have a max of 6 characters and should be limited to an individual symbol, acronym, or a combination of the two for your facility/business. Eg. "★" / "RAT" / "★ RAT" . Discreet dividers "|" "/" are permitted between your brand and the name of the animal. Brands should not be similar, please check before registering.
    (Check Registered Brands)
  • How can I use my brand? Brands may only be used for purposes relating to the facility it is registered with. The brand owner controls all regulations for their brand (within reason) and it is their job to notify players about the individual rules regarding their brand.
  • Can I have more than one brand? Players may purchase multiple brands if they own multiple facilities/businesses, they may also combine it under one. Players may not own more than one brand for one facility/business.

  • What is a business? A business is a registered structure on the server that aims to provide our community with a specific service that does not fall into a facility category.
  • How do I apply for a business? You'll ideally want to run through your ideas with staff prior to applying or building, just to be sure. After this, you'll want to apply through the link below.
    Business Application Form
  • Can I sell animals under a business? We review this on a case by case scenario. If a player for example would only like to sell snakes and snake accessories, they are permitted to put this under a business. The same for animals like cats, dogs, aquatics, etc - please ask staff beforehand. As a general rule of thumb, a small selection of small animals will likely be permitted assuming you are following the welfare requirements. These animals also count towards your total animal cap - you may apply for a brand if you sell animals.
  • Can I have multiple businesses? Yes, you can have multiple businesses, each should be its own individual structure or clearly divided.
  • If I'm planning on doing something that falls under a business, do I need to register it? Yes, if you are actively advertising a service it should be registered - there is no cost for registering a business. Applying for a business allows a public warp and a brand if animals are being sold.
  • What are player stores? /warp Sales provides pre-made stores for players to purchase. Purchasing a store allows you to customize it and sell your goods without the hassle of making your own. They are a one time purchase available to anyone as long as your business has been certified.

    Player store location:
Stores outside of our warp should not be within 12 chunks of any other properties, it may be present on a facility if it relates to the facility. If there are no animals present in the stores you may have multiple in the same area, this is due to entity rendering and theft prevention.

  • What is a facility?

A facility on Canterlands is a certified plot of land that has registered a preset type of service for the server (eg. breeding, boarding).

  • Can my facility have Personal Areas?

If stated, a facility may contain a discreet "personal area" that a player can use for housing and storage. Players may keep up to 8 personal entities (eg. cats, dogs, etc) on the property, entities and the area itself should not interrupt the flow of the facility. Entities on the property cannot be used for profit or sales and should ideally be restricted to "pet" type animals, you are not permitted to house horses on the property unless it is stated.

  • Can my facility have additional builds?

Facilities may have add-ons that are not stated within the requirements. For example, players may want to add additional arenas and such to properties, this is permitted as long as all standards are met and it relates to the facility.

  • Can I combine facilities?

Facilities cannot be combined at this current point in time. Facilities may be connected by a path/trail, however must be at least 12 chunks apart from any direction when standing at the edge of each property (though we encourage players to spread out further to prevent accidents). The area between the two properties can contain decoration. This is inclusive of personal areas where you plan to house horses and livestock unless stated in the specific facility type. Facilities cannot be combined due to a variety of reasons - our main ones being lag and distinction between each property, this is easier for our staff to regulate. Each property needs to be out of render (therefore being x amount of chunks away) due to lag control purposes, allowing facilities to be combined means a larger amount of entities being rendered in at once. Each facility should also be unique and stand out to our playerbase, having combined facilities may cause confusion with our facility requirements as each type has it's own distinct requirements and services it must offer. In real life, you would also typically not see multiple large scale businesses being combined together. We encourage all of our players to use the space provided to them, our world currently spans 200,000 x 200,000 blocks which allows plenty of room to explore. We do not encourage players building close together due to possible expansion of their facilities/builds - you may ask staff to fly around the area first to check you aren't near any other player. If you are too close to another player, you may be asked to move your property a significant distance away.

  • Why should I apply for a facility?

Facilities may gain bonus perks, such as the ability to apply for a brand, advertisement on our Discord / in game and additional slots. You may only use your facility perks (eg. extra breeding horses) for your facility, they may not be for personal use.

Basic Welfare

Food & Water

Horses should always have access to food and fresh water when stalled or out in the pasture. Water should always be accessible via a trough, half barrel or naturally replenishing source (eg. a lake running through a pasture). Food should always be accessible via natural forage (grazing on grass), or provided forage (timothy bales, alfalfa bales and quality bales). Hard feed is not a requirement however is encouraged for horses that are in work or are currently underweight.

Stalls

A stall for a horse should be adequately sized, allowing the horse to eat, drink and rest comfortably.

  • Size: The bare minimum stall size for any SWEM horse regardless of their use is 7(l)x7(w), this is to ensure horses have adequate space. Stall sizes do not include walls, however decoration and essentials inside of the stall do not take away from their floor space. We encourage you to provide as much space as possible for your horse.
  • Footing: Stalls should have comfortable footing, with at least 50% of the stall being some form of bedding material (shavings are recommended, however substitutes such as straw are also permitted). The remainder of the stall floor should be a safe, non-slip material such as mats.
  • Security: A secure stall should have no escape points for the horse to exit the stall, bar the exception of entryways/exits.Players may use barriers to block up small, cosmetic spaces where horses could escape.
  • Occupancy: Horses are not allowed to be housed in the same stall with the exception of a dam and her foal(s).
  • Divides: Stallions and mares present in the same barn should have a clear division in the stable with space between. Stallions should not be turned out with mares.
  • Runs: A run may be attached to a stall to provide a horse time outside, allowing them to socialize and graze without a pasture. Horse runs must be a minimum of 6(l)x6(w).
Pastures

Pastures offer a safe space for your horse(s) to be turned out and allow them to graze and socialize freely.

  • Security: All pastures must be secured through suitable gates, all entrances must be at least 2b wide. Pasture fences must be at least 1.5b+ tall to prevent horses from escaping or other animals from entering.
  • Size: Pastures must be a suitable size for the number of horses it keeps. The base size for a pasture containing a single horse must be at least 15b(l)x15b(w), each horse added to the pasture requires an additional 225b of space. Floorspace counts as any usable space including feeders, decoration and enrichment, but excludes walls/fences.
  • Footing: Suitable footing for pastures consists of natural and soft blocks (e.g., grass/dirt). Pastures may incorporate small amounts of harder blocks into the soil for decoration purposes but this should not make up the majority of the animals' available area.
  • Terrain: Pastures should avoid having any harsh slopes or terrain that could potentially injure your horse unless it is appropriately fenced or barricaded off.
  • Shelter: Regardless of use, all pastures must provide at least 4b(w)x4b(l) of shelter. Each horse present in the pasture requires an additional 16b of shelter. Shelter may be built or natural (trees, caves, overhangs, etc.).
  • Occupancy: Pastures may house as many horses as they have adequate space and shelter for. Stallions should not be turned out with mares. Horses may be turned out with docile animals (e.g., cows/sheep) permitting you meet the welfare needs for all animals present in the pasture.

Calculating Pasture Area:

You will need to calculate the area of your pasture to determine how many horses can be turned out. Length x Width (excluding fences) = the area of your pasture.

Divided by 225 = how many horses you may turn out into that pasture. For example, a pasture measures 30b x 30b, this equals 900b of space - to calculate how many horses I can store in this pasture I would divide the 900 by 225. This means I can adequately house 4 horses in this pasture. If an answer does not equal a whole number, you must use the previous whole number. Eg. 4.2 means I can still only have 4 horses turned out, as I cannot have part of a horse.

What are animal welfare standards and why do we use them?

All players must abide by our animal welfare standards in order to promote a realistic in-game farming experience for everyone. Enclosures should be double-checked BEFORE animals are housed inside of them to ensure they are safe, secure, and meet all of the animal's needs. Our animal caps include all animals owned by a player (regardless of whether they are spread out over multiple properties). Players may breed above the 16 limit as long as the animals are culled or stored back to appropriate levels before the player logs off (within reason, a staff member may ask you to reduce your animal population if you are significantly over the cap; please use it wisely and only have out what you need). By default, a player may have 20 of each animal species out, and 20 of each animal species in storage via mob balls.

Further Information & Guidelines

Players may opt for a livestock license and ranch if they are wanting to house more animals on their property permanently; alternatively, they may choose to purchase more slots on our store via ranks.

Yes, you're free to use your extra animals on the same plot as your other animals. For example, if you have a bonus +2 horse slots, you may have a total of 16 horses on your property. Please bear in mind this is specifically for your animals/horses and may be different if you own a facility.

Players that are sharing personal accommodation must only have 20 of each animal species out on the property at a time; more players does not equal a larger cap. More may be stored at least 12 chunks away. Any animals in storage must be clearly labeled with each player’s username in order to prevent confusion.

By not meeting our animal welfare requirements or caps, you are going against an important rule we have established on the server to provide people with realistic and lag-free gameplay. Properties will be flagged (this is not a formal warning), and a time period is given for the player to resolve the issues on their property. If the issues are not resolved, the player’s animals will be sent to rescue, and they may have their animals confiscated and a rescue ban.

Please note that by allowing players on your property, you are somewhat responsible for any actions that take place. Your property will receive a flag if there are any welfare issues present on it; please be careful about who you trust on your property. If a player is not following welfare standards on your property, you should let a staff member know and ask them to move elsewhere.

Inactivity is defined as the duration between the last verified login from a player to the current date. We monitor player activity to ensure animal welfare and promote an active server.

  • How long can I be inactive for?

Players have to be inactive for at least 60 days (with a few exceptions) before their properties are inspected. You can log onto the server briefly to restart your timer.

  • What happens if I'm unable to log on?

Please contact a staff member PRIOR to hitting our 60 inactivity mark to discuss a reasonable extension. Please note that we only accept valid reasons under specific circumstances for an extension. Exceptional circumstances may include personal issues and simply not being able to log on (eg. internet issues). Please note that staff may deny your extension or end it if deemed inappropriate.

  • What happens if I'm inactive for 60 days?

If you go inactive for 60 days, animals under your ownership will be sent to rescue in order to be adopted into new homes. Properties may be sold, auctioned, or cleared to allow others to use the area. Items may be auctioned off with the property, auctioned, or cleared along with items present in your inventory. You will essentially be "reset", if you choose to log back on after being inactive a member of staff can reset your quest data in order to complete the starter quests again and get a new starter horse.

  • What happens if I quit the server?

If you announce that you no longer wish to be a part of our community please assume the same regulations as if you were to have hit two months of inactivity. You cannot give away items/properties/animals if you are leaving (as this can bypass the above regulations). You may sell any of the above for a reasonable price following the general economy. Alternatively you may DM a staff member to privately state that you are leaving - in this case we will quietly deal with your property on the server.

  • What happens if I'm banned?

This will be assessed on a case by case scenario, please assume that a permanent ban holds the same regulations as hitting the 60 day inactivity mark. In cases of a temporary ban, it is more likely that your property will remain on the server until your ban has expired.

  • How do I set a nickname?

Similar to /nickname, Fakename allows you to change your ingame name to a nickname of your choice! You can even add a splash of color if you're feeling fancy. Please note /nickname overwrites fakename. If you ever used /nickname (eg. /nickname Sky), your fakename won't show up! To remove /nickname, run the command again without a name attached: (/nickname).

  • How to set your fakename
You set your name with the following command: /fakename set The name you want to use goes into quotations like so: /fakename set "name" (eg. /fakename set "Sky") You really only need the quotations if you're using color/formatting codes, but for the sake of ease just use them anyway.

  • Adding color & formatting
Fakename uses Minecraft's color and formatting codes which you can find on the attached chart! If you want to add some color, you place the color code before the word or letter you want to be that color: /fakename set "&bSky" Yes, letter. /fakename set "&bS&9k&y3" will give you a tricolored name! Fakename respects spaces as well: /fakename set "&bSky &9is &ysleepy" The above is also true of formatting, such as bold, italics, and underline. All of which can be combined! /fakename set "&b&lSky &9&nis &y&osleepy"

  • Notes
Do not use fakename to insult, mock, or impersonate players or staff. Please make sure your fakename is easy to read. Avoid using symbols/unicode in your name. Symbols are reserved for brand use and we don't want anyone to get confused. Do not use the command /fakename real. It WILL crash your game.
credits to sky for writing our fakename turorial (edited)

  • Regulations / Rules

All nicknames and usernames must be appropriate for our server and not contain any NSFW language, reference, or include language that others may be offended by.

There is no designated nickname length, however this should be your genuine preferred name and is not to be abused - if your nickname is deemed inappropriately long you may be asked to change it. You may color your nickname, however all nicknames should be clearly readable and eligible - flashing Minecraft formats in any form of your nickname are not allowed.

Nicknames should remain alphanumeric (with a few exceptions such as underscores), a player may include a symbol or brand abbreviation in their nickname only if they have a certified brand. If players do not own a brand, they should not have a symbol in their nickname to avoid confusion in the future.Nicknames should only include your nickname and certified brand(s) - do not impersonate staff members or ranks.

  • Where can I build?

You are permitted to build anywhere in the wilderness as long as you are a suitable distance away from other players and server builds. You should be at least 3000 blocks away from any server build - though the further the better. Please keep in mind that if you do build near spawn or other players, you will likely be asked to move your area. You should be using /rtp and building a significant distance away from other builds. Properties should be at least 12 chunks away from each other if the combined entities add up to more than the cap.

  • General Rules

All builds should be appropriate and SFW, you should be following things such as our Animal Welfare Guidelines regardless of whether you own a facility.

  • How do claims work?

We use the Open Parties and Claims mod (OPAC) due to players being able to individually customize their own spaces. We suggest looking at this quick tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OIbfXo3sJU) and others on YouTube before asking questions regarding the mod. Default players have 500 available chunk claims and can increase this via rank purchase.

  • How do I build a facility?

For more information regarding facilities, we suggest reading the facility tab on our website here: https://canterlands.com/facilities

  • Can I build with my friend or create a facility together?

You may build with friends to create houses, businesses and facilities together (note that you may only be able to register one person as a co-owner). Welfare caps also apply overall to plots, please assume that you can only house one player's animal cap per designated area (you may house more at least 12 chunks away). Players that are sharing may combine their animals in storage if wanted, however chests should be clearly labelled with the respective players username to prevent staff from flagging players being over the storage cap.

  • Can I get someone else to build for me?

You're free to post an iso post on our Discord if you're looking for a builder, please specify what you're looking for along with price ranges.
