Canterlands Frequently Asked Questions

Question Answer
How do I get started? You will be spawned in Iron Hoof Isle near our starter quiz, complete the quiz and collect your quest book. Finish the quests on Iron Hoof Isle. There is a brief tutorial of this here: https://www.tiktok.com/@canterlands/video/7660554374317444383

At your home server hub (provided to you in the whitelist channel upon whitelisting), complete the starter questline in order. The quests will guide you through finding your first property and using /rtp from the hub. Completing the questline also rewards a starter horse spawn egg. Right-click the egg to receive a breedable and rideable three-year-old horse in your selected model, with a randomized breed, sex, and height. You are not required to keep the horse!
How do I transfer between servers? Use /server server-name. The command will tab-complete available server names. If a red warning appears in chat, remove any prohibited items from your inventory before attempting to transfer again. Only approved storage containers may be transferred.

Your home server is provided to you when you initially whitelisted, if unsure, it'll be the server you can execute the /rtp on and the one where you'll have claim chunks on!
Can storage items transfer between servers? Sophisticated Storage items do not transfer safely. Keep them in the world where their data was originally stored until you return. Contents may be permanently lost if the item is destroyed, lost, placed, or broken in another world. This includes items such as Sophisticated Storage shulkers. Canterlands is not responsible for losses caused by ignoring this warning.
Can I live or build with friends? Yes, but all nearby properties share regional animal limits. By default, a maximum of 16 animals per species and 25 horses may be kept within a 12-chunk radius. Spread claims, properties, and animals out to prevent overlapping caps. Animals stored in Mob Capturing Tools or similar devices must be clearly labelled with the owning player’s username.
How do I join the same home server as a friend? After submitting your whitelist application but before joining the server, open an Other ticket and provide your friend’s home server name. Home-server changes are processed manually and may take time. Players who join without notifying staff first may not be eligible for a transfer afterward. Please note we are unable to process any server transfers after 5 days of your first login.

Please note we are not able to transfer you to another server unless you are intending on playing with another individual who currently resides on that server.
How many animals can I keep out? The default limit is 16 of each species, such as 16 dogs, 16 cats, or 16 sheep. Horses have a default limit of 25 Certain approved facilities may receive additional animal or horse slots, but those slots may only be used for the facility’s intended purpose.
How many animals can I store? Players by default may store an additional 20 of each species using Mob Capturing Tools, buckets, tanks, or similar storage methods. Horses may only be placed in Mob Capturing Tools temporarily for quick transportation (eg. going to an event) and may not be kept in the Mob Capturing Tool to bypass welfare, housing, aging, etc. Bucketed tropical fish intended for axolotl breeding do not count toward the storage limit, but players must remain sensible and avoid excessive quantities.
How do I earn money? Grow crops and craft them into goods to sell at the market near spawn. Items requiring more ingredients, processing, or crafting time generally provide a higher payout than basic crops and materials. Market stock and prices are subject to rotation.

Mining and woodcutting are good starter options that require minimal setup to get started.
Where do I gather materials and animals? Use /server The-Outlands to access the resource world. Use /rtp there to teleport to a random location. The Outlands is intended only for gathering materials, finding animals, and similar resource activities. Do not claim land, create permanent builds, or leave animals or horses behind. The world is usually cleared on Sundays - please keep up to date with our announcements/updates channel to ensure you remove any assets from this world before it goes down. We are not responsible for any loss of assets if this is ignored.

Please note you can only kill genetic animals with an axe!
How do I transport animals from the Outlands? Use a Mob Capturing Tool to transport permitted animals between servers. When returning, use /server and tab-complete the destination server. Do not leave animals or horses in the Outlands before a reset.
Why are there no natural mobs on home servers? Hostile and passive mob spawning is disabled on all home servers and the event world to reduce entity lag. Players should use the Outlands to gather animals and other naturally generated resources.
How many claim chunks can I have? By default, you may have up to 600 claim chunks - these are to be used on your home server. You may have an additional increase in claim chunks by purchasing a rank or from a server role (eg. builder).
What is Animal Welfare? Animal Welfare rules ensure livestock are housed and cared for properly while reducing unnecessary server lag. These standards apply to all players. Staff may make limited exceptions for events or temporary server areas. Refer to the Animal Welfare section at the top of the website for the complete requirements.
How do I contact staff? For minor issues, ask an online staff member in chat whether they are available. Staff may have commands and multiple conversations appearing at once, so a missed message does not mean you are being ignored. For urgent issues, such as severe chat disruption, ping an online staff member or send one a direct message. For non-urgent questions, check the FAQ, use the questions channel, or ask another community member first. Our questions channel should be utilized for gameplay related questions, we do not provide support for any external servers, technical issues, etc.
How can I support Canterlands? You can support the server by downloading the modpack, participating in the community, playing regularly, or purchasing from the Tebex Store.
