Champagne (CH)
Champagne is a dominant dilution that affects both red and black pigment, meaning it can visibly dilute all three base coat colors.
Champagne horses typically have lighter coats and pinkish skin. However, their appearance can vary depending on the horse's underlying base color.
Champagne Coat Colors
The resulting color depends on the horse's base color:
- Chestnut + Champagne (CH) - Gold Champagne
- Bay + Champagne (CH) - Amber Champagne
- Black + Champagne (CH) - Classic Champagne
Champagne Inheritance
Because Champagne is dominant, only one copy is needed for the dilution to be expressed. This means horses with either CH/n or CH/CH will visibly display Champagne.
- CH/CH - The horse has two copies of Champagne and will always pass Champagne to its offspring.
- CH/n - The horse has one copy of Champagne and has a 50% chance of passing Champagne to its offspring.
- n/n - The horse does not have the Champagne gene and will not visibly display it or be able to pass it to its offspring.
